About The Position

Eliot is seeking a Peer Specialist for its Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS) division. ACCS provides clinically focused, evidence-based interventions to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Services are person-centered and delivered by a multidisciplinary team in residential or community-based settings. The Peer Specialist works with clients experiencing severe mental illness in both community and residential locations. The role emphasizes mental health recovery and building lasting relationships with people served and ACCS team members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have received mental health services in the past and have self-knowledge to manage their mental illness and an established recovery process.
• Must be a Certified Peer Specialist or complete certification within six months of hire.
• Valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Empower people with mental illness to exercise autonomy and support them in identifying choices and developing self-advocacy skills.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure each person's perspective is included, preferences are recognized, and choices are maximized.
• Provide training and consultation to staff to help them understand the perspectives of the people served.
• Guide people through recovery by providing advocacy, support, and education during intake, transitions across services, and transitions to independence.
• Help people identify personal approaches to recovery and develop self-management plans for addressing their experiences of mental illness.
• Promote hope and empowerment through meetings and support.
• Participate in developing treatment plans and encourage people to communicate their personal recovery goals.
• Ensure services are culturally competent, strengths-based, recovery-based, rehabilitation-focused, and inclusive of each person's preferences; keep the person at the center of care and provide interventions consistently with those preferences.
