About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Peer Support Specialist who self identifies as having lived experience of a substance use disorder and/or mental health condition (self or family members), mirrors the cultural and linguistic profile of the community, and uses their lived experience along with skills learned in formal training to assist clients in their recovery from substance use disorder.

Requirements

  • At minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Self-Identified as having own lived experience with SUD and/or mental illness.
  • Completion of Recovery Innovations
  • Required: Medi-Cal Peer Support Certified through CalMHSA
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, tuberculin skin test, alcohol and drugs, including marijuana.
  • Must have medical clearance certifying absence of TB.
  • Fingerprint clearance and criminal check required.
  • Free from exclusion and debarment.
  • Verification of current driver’s license and automobile insurance required for personal car usage.

Responsibilities

  • Support clients who are participating in Outpatient SUD Program.
  • Provide peer support services, individuals and group sessions.
  • Provide support by drawing on own experiences and professional skills to build a trusting relationship with participants.
  • Provide culturally competent services that promote recovery, engagement, socialization, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, and identification of strengths.
  • Provide relapse prevention services, and coaching.
  • Provide linkages to community resources, or education documented in an individualized treatment or recovery plan.
  • Transports and/or accompanies clients to appointments, court hearings etc.
  • Provide Recovery Services
  • Support Client and Client’s treatment team in supporting client with achieving treatment goals.
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with agency, HIPAA, 42CFR, and funder standards. Properly document all client interactions.
  • Maintain a warm, welcoming, trauma informed, clean, and safe space, and keep all equipment in good working order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
