About The Position

Project Renewal is a leading non-profit organization with the mission of building supportive communities where people achieve dignity and independence, renewing their lives with health, homes, and jobs. Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City. Renewal House provides permanent housing to 25 individuals who have a history of substance use disorders. Renewal House is funded by OASAS and works to provide clients with skills that will support them with integration into the community.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent with one (1) year of experience

  • Ability to promote collaboration, model positive team participation, and support clients in overcoming challenges.
  • Strong oral, written, and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and staff.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and support both short-term tasks and long-term program goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build respectful, supportive relationships with clients while working effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with case management software (AWARDS).

Responsibilities

  • Organize, lead, and promote recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, on-site tournaments, and other population-focused leisure activities.
  • Meet regularly with clients to understand their interests and develop activities that support participation and engagement.
  • Manage the daily recreational schedule and ensure activities are coordinated effectively.
  • Welcome new clients, introduce them to the recreational program, and encourage participation.
  • Escort clients to recreational activities, relevant events, and identified appointments as needed.
  • Encourage clients to attend house meetings, support groups, and recreational activities, while supporting their efforts toward participation.
  • Complete and maintain time and attendance forms.
  • Document client participation in recreational activities in client case records.
  • Collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, the NYC Parks Department, and other professionals to plan balanced recreational programs for participants.
  • Participate with the social services team and attend meetings as required.
  • Communicate with the social services team regarding client concerns, progress, and support needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
