About The Position

The Peer Specialist will perform various coaching, mentoring and support for the Wellness and Recovery after Psychosis (WRAP) clinical programs and staff. The Peer Specialist will work to develop, plan, facilitate and promote activities, programs and resources which support peers in achieving their goals. The Peer Specialist will coach and mentor patients in the WRAP program. The Peer Specialist will maintain and ensure a warm and welcoming environment and communicate, represent and promote the peer perspective within the WRAP program. The Peer Specialists will develop and lead peer-run groups and activities.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, Certified Peer Specialist or equivalent experience in a mental health care environment or related work experience required.
  • Current or previous experience as recipient of mental health services required (referred by department).
  • Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Basic computer familiarity inclusive of ability to enter and access data/information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to instill confidence and to advocate for patients and their family.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in healthcare field preferred.
  • Certified Peer Specialist preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and web browser, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on-going coaching, mentoring, and support to patients in the WRAP program
  • Ensures accurate data collection and timely reporting.
  • Helps to facilitate events and trainings within the WRAP program
  • Informs, supports and empowers peers receiving mental health services
  • Acts consistently in a manner that demonstrates dignity and respect for peers
  • Acts in a calm, gentle manner and treats all peers and professionals alike with respect
  • Acts as role model, sharing personal strengths and skills and promoting hope in recovery
  • Attends trainings and workshops that are job-related
  • Develops and leads peer-run support groups
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital’s behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the department and hospital’s mission and goals.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as needed.
