About The Position

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist provides peer support services, based on an individualized, recovery-focused service philosophy that allows individuals the opportunity to learn to manage their own recovery and advocacy process. The PRSS will work to enhance the development of natural supports, coping skills and other skills to function as independently as possible in the community. Family & Children's Services utilizes the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model of care. Services are delivered to a high risk adult population who carry a serious mental illness, substance abuse, co-occurring and/or medically co-morbid diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have HS equivalent
  • Specialized experience as a recipient of mental health services for mental illness
  • Experience working with adults with mental illness
  • Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification (if you do not already have, you will obtain after hire)
  • Valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record (required for travel and client transportation)
  • PRSS Certification: $26 application fee (required before start date).

Nice To Haves

  • Case Manager I Certification (to be completed within 60 days of eligibility)
  • Wellness Coach Certification (if you do not already have, you will obtain after hire)
  • CM1 Certification: $25 application fee $50 training fee $45 exam fee

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and/or group peer support to individuals recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Share personal experiences to build trust, inspire hope, and foster a sense of empowerment in clients.
  • Assist individuals in developing personalized recovery/safety/stabilization plans, including setting goals and identifying strategies for overcoming barriers.
  • Help clients navigate the healthcare system, including linking them to treatment services, social services, housing, and other community resources.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic, person-centered care.
  • Provide education on recovery and wellness, encouraging individuals to take an active role in their recovery.
  • Assist clients in developing self-advocacy skills and accessing support networks.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided, in accordance with CCBHC standards.
  • May facilitate peer-led recovery groups and workshops depending on program needs.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, training, and supervision.
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all client interactions.
