About The Position

Peer Recovery Support Coaches use personal lived experience in recovery, combined with formal training and certification, to provide mentoring, coaching, education, skill-building, and recovery support services that assist individuals and families in achieving and maintaining long-term recovery and wellness. Services are community-based, person-centered, and recovery-oriented.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Direct, lived experience in recovery from mental health disorder or substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder or experience as the primary caregiver for a family member with emotional, developmental, behavioral, mental health, and/or substance use challenges, and or intellectual disabilities.
  • Certified or eligible for Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS-SUD, PRSS-MH, CFPS) by the WV Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Employment Fitness Determination through WVCARES and a drug screen.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles, relapse prevention, and peer support practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources and behavioral health systems.
  • Ability to establish supportive and recovery-oriented relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide PRSS services in community-based and other approved service settings.
  • Utilize lived experience in recovery to provide mentoring, coaching, advocacy, education, skill-building, and support that promotes recovery, wellness, self-management, and community integration.
  • Assist clients in identifying and achieving individualized recovery goals; developing natural support, accessing services and resources; and overcoming barriers to recovery.
  • Collaborate with client and interdisciplinary treatment team to support identified recovery goals, coordinate services and resources.
  • Support clients in making informed, healthy, and independent choices and encourage participation in recovery-oriented and community activities that promote sustained recovery.
  • Coach clients in self-advocacy and effective communication with healthcare providers; navigating behavioral health, medical, social service, and community support systems.
  • Provide support related to recovery, crisis, and relapse prevention, including identifying triggers and early warning signs, developing coping strategies, and strengthening recovery supports.
  • Support members in addressing health-related social needs, including housing, employment, transportation, education, and community integration.
  • Link to or arrange for transportation to and from treatment; provide approved transportation to and from treatment, as a last resort.
  • Provide after-hours and non-traditional hours of availability to meet individual needs of those served.
  • Assure quality service for clients by becoming knowledgeable of and adhering to rules, regulations, and legal requirements and by documenting services provided in accordance with established standards.
  • Secure information by adhering to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations and Seneca privacy policies and keeping client information confidential.
  • Maintain appropriate ethical and professional boundaries and operate within the scope of certification, training, and lived experience.
  • Avoid dual relationships and conflicts of interest that may compromise ethical service delivery.
  • Represent Seneca in a positive manner including maintaining a positive attitude and performing duties in a manner in accordance with Seneca’s Code of Conduct and Ethical Practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
