About The Position

Avivo Chemical Mental Health Division offers a continuum of integrated services, including access, clinical treatment, care coordination, and recovery support, through its Community Chemical and Mental Health, Supportive Housing, and 245G substance use disorder programs. The division is committed to providing innovative, person-centered, strength-based, and outcome-driven services, emphasizing culturally responsive care in a trauma-informed environment. The Peer Recovery Specialist will be responsible for delivering general recovery support to women and men participating in Avivo’s single men/women intensive outpatient treatment program. This role involves assisting with program support, facilitating connections to community recovery activities, providing transportation for participants, helping them meet basic needs, and guiding them through the substance use service system to enhance access to services. This is a full-time position working 32 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year experience working with individuals experiencing chemical dependency problems and/or mental health issues.
  • Current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board, the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders, or the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.
  • An individual may also receive a credential from a tribal nation when providing peer recovery support services in a tribally licensed program.
  • Completion of Recovery Coach Training and certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through the Minnesota Certification Board (MCB).
  • Minimum of one year freedom from alcohol and chemical abuse/ addiction.
  • Experience with and/or commitment to working in a diverse, continuum of services in a fast-paced, growing organization.
  • Experience with and/or a demonstrated commitment to developing and delivering culturally responsive services.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in a behavioral health setting and/or residential treatment.
  • Work experience in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Experience with programs serving individuals with dual diagnoses.
  • Experience working in outpatient treatment.
  • Experience using Credible Electronic Health Record.
  • Certification: First Aid/CPR desired. If certification is not held at time of hire, training and certification must be obtained to remain in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high quality, mission-driven services and outcomes in a safe recovery environment.
  • Provide provision of general treatment support and recovery maintenance through Avivo’s Multicultural Recovery Coaching Initiative to African American, multiracial, and multicultural participants.
  • Demonstrate commitment to SAMSHA’s definition of recovery and recovery principles: “A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.” www.samhsa.gov
  • Actively participate in the division’s Trauma Informed Care Initiative and motivational interviewing.
  • Support and implement evidence-based practices related to specific program area.
  • Employ a holistic approach including promoting health and wellness activities with participants.
  • Provide transportation to participants including operation of Avivo van.
