The Peer Support Supervisor is a vital leadership role within the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, dedicated to promoting the health, well-being, and resilience of the community. Receiving general supervision under the Special Program Coordinator for Peer Support, this position bridges the gap between clinical services, peer support, and community resources. By championing public health, behavioral health, and harm reduction, the supervisor empowers individuals navigating substance use and mental health challenges, ensuring that care is accessible, effective, culturally competent, and client-centered. A core responsibility of this role is overseeing the day-to-day operations of non-clinical, lower-level Certified Peer Recovery Specialists. The supervisor provides direct leadership, facilitates training and development, and monitors service quality to ensure all staff efforts align with agency policies. By guiding their team, the supervisor ensures that all interactions are rooted in best practices for peer recovery support, clinical collaboration, and client advocacy. Beyond team leadership, the Peer Support Supervisor actively manages and coordinates program implementation across multiple community and clinical sites. This includes planning and supervising recovery support activities at locations such as the Jennifer Road Detention Center (JRDC), Ordnance Road Correctional Facility (ORCC), the Syringe Services Program (SSP), Anne Arundel County DUI/Drug Court, Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC), the Leola Dorsey Resource Center, and various other outreach sites. At these locations, the supervisor guides team efforts in determining client needs, navigating the recovery continuum, providing necessary referrals to external community resources, and delivering targeted education and outreach in both individual and group settings. Administrative excellence and compliance are also central to this position. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all team members maintain accurate, real-time documentation in the Welligent Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This includes tracking all contact attempts, field visits, and specific metrics required for SUPRT/SOR grant reporting. Additionally, the supervisor manages data entry, completes required forms and reports for the agency and the Behavioral Health Administration, and ensures all supervised staff remain compliant with mandatory training requirements. The position may be designated as Emergency Essential at the time of the emergency. This means the employee may be required to report to work or remain at work to continue agency operations during an emergency situation. During the emergency, the employee may be asked to perform a task outside their normal day-to-day job responsibilities. No employee will be asked to perform a task for which they have not been trained or that is outside the scope of their legal practice. The Health Officer may excuse or require the employee’s presence as circumstances and conditions warrant. Must be flexible to travel to multiple locations.
