About The Position

The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking a Peer Mentor to provide support to youth transitioning into adulthood, particularly those aging out of the state care system. This role focuses on preparing these young adults for confident, self-sufficient lives in the community by offering resources and support tailored to their unique challenges, such as homelessness, unemployment, and substance abuse. The position requires working on Saturdays and Sundays.

Requirements

  • Personal experience living with significant mental health issues.
  • Willingness to attend trainings prior to beginning job functions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, and traveling to client home communities.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Completion of Core GIFT Training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual support through ongoing routine contact to youth.
  • Provide in-person mentoring services to youth both within their home communities and onsite.
  • Participate as needed in quarterly treatment reviews and other meetings, as requested by the youth and/or program team.
  • Facilitate peer groups with the goal of sharing personal strengths and interests that align with those of the program youth population.
  • Partner with and advocate for youth through Restorative Practices.
  • Assist program team in collecting and sharing information about community resources for our youth population.
  • Partner with, engage, and retain resources identified to support program youth.
  • Meet weekly for Supervision.
  • Complete required documentation.
