About The Position

We’re looking for a responsible, motivated student who wants to help others succeed in HS 131 – Human Development. As a Peer Mentor, you’ll partner with the instructor to support class activities, guide fellow students, and create a positive learning environment. This is a great opportunity to build leadership, communication, and mentoring skills while making a real impact on your peers.

Requirements

Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Washburn University
Must be in good academic standing and have completed HS 131 – Human Development with a B or higher
Working knowledge of prominent computer programs (Word, Canva, etc.) and D2L
Familiar with APA format
Demonstrated professionalism and initiative
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Applicants must be available for the full duration of the assigned course: HS 131: Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30am-10:45am, Fall 2026
Applicants must be available for up to 9 hours each week.

Responsibilities

Assist with the facilitation of course discussions and activities, including regular class attendance.
Collaborate with the instructor(s) and guest speakers through weekly meetings to support course delivery and preparation.
Provide peer support by responding to student questions, offering tutoring, and serving as a positive role model to promote academic and social success.
Support course operations through tasks such as grading assistance and class preparation.
Perform job-related duties related to department operations.
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Support group interactions and help foster a positive class community, including encouraging collaboration and team success in group activities and projects.
May assist with additional duties as assigned, based on course needs.
