About The Position

Performs mentoring services to at-risk youth and related work as apparent or assigned. The Mentor Advocate (MA) position is responsible for providing direct service to youth in small groups and individual settings within Randolph County. The MA is responsible for planning the activities and during these outings, the MA has the opportunity to develop personal management staff to ensure positive youth development. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Day Reporting Center Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Associates/Technical degree with coursework in human services, criminology, substance abuse, criminal justice, or related field and less than one year experience working with the public, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides mentoring to youth.
  • Provides regular scheduled mentoring activities.
  • Assures decorum and orderliness on all group outings to ensure child safety at all times.
  • Consults with Parents/Guardians.
  • Challenges and/or encourages a mentee depending on what the situation requires.
  • Offers opportunities to problem solve and exchange ideas.
  • Provides feedback that is honest, open, and positive.
  • Takes a genuine interest in helping the mentee succeed.
  • Presents opportunities to the mentee that may not have been recognized on his/her own.
  • Provides suggestions to the best of one's knowledge that help the mentee reach their goals.
  • Recruits and assists with volunteers within this program.
  • Establishes and maintains participant records.
  • Completes data entry to maintain accurate participant information.
  • Abides by, enforces, and participates in the implementation and ongoing oversight of Randolph County Government safety standards and regulations.
