We are seeking a Peer Engagement Specialist who is passionate about supporting individuals in recovery and helping people build meaningful, self-directed lives. Through outreach, engagement, recovery support, and community connections, you will play a vital role in helping individuals affected by opioid use and co-occurring mental health challenges achieve long-term stability and wellness. This is a part-time, 30 hours per week position within our Housing Program. Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least two years of experience in a behavioral health, substance use treatment, recovery support, or related human services setting.
  • Personal lived experience with mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery, with a strong commitment to supporting others on their recovery journey.
  • Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor (DARC), Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP), or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices, psychiatric rehabilitation principles, community resources, and person-centered care approaches.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn and effectively navigate electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with agency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intensive outreach and recovery-oriented services that support individuals in achieving their recovery goals while promoting independence, community integration, and overall well-being.
  • Build trusted relationships with individuals affected by substance use and mental health challenges through outreach, engagement, and ongoing peer support.
  • Assist clients in identifying goals, developing recovery plans, and accessing community resources, benefits, housing supports, healthcare, and other essential services.
  • Encourage participation in recovery-focused activities, skill-building opportunities, support groups, and community-based programs.
  • Conduct regular client meetings, including community and home visits as appropriate, while coordinating care with internal teams, families, and external providers.
  • Provide education, encouragement, and advocacy that promote recovery, resilience, self-sufficiency, and meaningful community involvement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, participate in team meetings and trainings, support program reporting requirements, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
