About The Position

About University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) USAC is a non-profit, university-affiliate study abroad organization headquartered on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. Since 1982, USAC has provided opportunities for students to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the global society of the 21st century. Position Overview The Peer Advisor position is a part-time position that works closely with Program Advisors. The ideal candidate will have good computer skills, time management, and experience with Microsoft Office (especially Word), be friendly, helpful and willing to learn and tackle new challenges in a busy work environment. USAC’s success is a product of our staff, both in the US and abroad. Position Type & Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time, non-exempt, and non-benefited position. It will be paid $14 and up to 19 hours a week. General Responsibilities General reception administrative duties General study abroad advisement Enthusiastically and accurately provide information about USAC and the study abroad process to students, parents, and university staff. Data entry Editing documents Maintaining accurate student records Communicating with students about their pre-departure process Be able to manage detailed projects with responsibility and autonomy Mailing materials to study abroad students Makes decisions in high-pressure situations Be available to work both during the academic year and also during university breaks (i.e., time off around holidays and breaks is no problem, but we are open year-round) Other Duties as Assigned Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Requirements

  • Basic receptionist/administrative experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Available to work 19 hours a week; Monday-Friday, 8 am – 5 pm

Nice To Haves

  • International or study abroad experience preferred
  • Advanced level of written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Patience in helping students clarify needs and explore their interests, providing capacities and resources in order to help them make informed choices, and making suggestions about available study abroad opportunities
  • Self-starter
