About The Position

Fraser Health is seeking a full-time Pediatrician at Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH). Applications from new graduates are welcome, with mentoring provided over two years. Job share applications are also accepted. The position is based within the existing Chilliwack Pediatric Clinic, which operates independently within Chilliwack General Hospital and utilizes office space rented from the health authority. The clinic's hospital location facilitates effective and high-quality acute pediatric care for Maternity Services, the Emergency Room, and the Pediatric Observation Unit, while also enhancing services for families attending the clinic. The current scope of practice includes Acute Services, with a 1 in 5 on-call rota covering Maternity and Delivery Suite, Emergency Room consultations, and a 4-bed 24-hour observation unit. Urgent acute referrals are managed from family doctors or other local specialists. Pediatricians attend high-risk and unexpected pre-term deliveries, stabilize newborns, and manage short-term infant medical problems. They are consulted by emergency room physicians for high-acuity cases needing full monitoring or less acute cases on the Pediatric Observation Unit. Children requiring more than 24 hours of care are transferred to Abbotsford Regional Hospital or BC Children’s Hospital, with established links and a centralized transport system. Community Services include general pediatric services for children from birth to 19 years with general pediatric medical problems, social and developmental issues, behavior and mental health problems, learning difficulties, and school issues. Approximately 50% of the clinic's workload involves these latter three areas. Specialist services include outreach clinics in Hope and a weekly multidisciplinary child development clinic. Discussions are ongoing to expand multi-agency child health working with pre-school and school-aged children. Developmental pediatric experience and training would be an advantage, with flexibility for additional training if necessary.
