About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an Outpatient Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide care to a varied pediatric caseload from 0 through 12 years old, with a primary focus on birth to 5-year-olds. This role is part of a multidisciplinary pediatric care team supporting growing programs for Infant Mental Health and Early Intervention. The position is full-time and involves working within an integrated care team that is collaborative and dedicated to young patients.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology required.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Current California State licensure as Speech Language Pathologist required; license must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • Pediatric specific experience required.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency.

Nice To Haves

  • C.C.C. (ASHA) in Speech Pathology preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience as a Speech & Language Pathologist preferred.
  • Experience in early intervention (0-3) preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients referred to speech & language therapy, as well as Early Intervention.
  • Performs evaluations and diagnoses speech and language disorders in children regarding speech and language deficits according to each patient’s needs, physician recommendations, and specific program guidelines/protocols.
  • Communicates with patient and/or parents/caregivers regarding evaluation results, treatment plan, and goals.
  • Provides home program activities to patients and/or parents/caregivers to ensure carryover to the home environment.
  • Engages patients and/or parents/caregivers in the treatment sessions.
  • Provides individual (1:1) treatment to assigned patients as appropriate in accordance with established standards of care and practice.
  • Designs an appropriate and effective treatment plan and works within scope of practice at all times.
  • Monitors progress of treatment goals through periodic observations and assessments.
  • Conducts re-evaluations when indicated.
  • Consults with Physician, allied health professionals, and other team members.
  • Participates in case conferencing meeting and in program planning meetings.
  • Facilitates training and presentations for staff, patients, and parents/caregivers when applicable.
  • Communicates regularly with Referral Specialist, Case Management, Care Coordination, and Scheduling staff.
  • Makes recommendations and follows through with referrals to internal programs, as well as outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Makes recommendations to infant/early childhood or mental health services when dyadic concerns arise.
  • Completes all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with the department standards; in addition, documentation complies with the patient’s insurance requirements.
  • Provides treatment at different FHCSD clinic sites for increasing patients’ ability to access care.
