About The Position

The Pediatric Rehab Tech - Part Time position at Advocate Christ Medical Center - Pediatrics Rehabilitation in Palos Heights is a part-time role requiring 20 hours per week. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Friday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This role involves performing daily maintenance routines for rehabilitation departments, assisting with clerical responsibilities, maintaining department supplies, performing basic modality/exercise treatments, preparing patients for treatment, transporting patients, performing basic gait training and therapeutic exercises, performing basic patient transfer techniques, communicating patient needs, utilizing proper isolation procedures, and engaging in self-development. The pay range for this position is $19.80 - $29.70.

Requirements

  • High School Education
  • 1 year of experience as a Rehab Aide or Rehab Technician
  • Good communication skills.
  • Competency in all Rehab Aide I duties.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily sanitation of PT/OT Gym areas, i.e., mat tables, tables, parallel bars and therapeutic equipment.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel regarding equipment malfunctioning, hydra equipment.
  • Maintains general clinic tidiness.
  • Maintains splint area ensuring that supplies are properly stored and countertops are clear. Refills water levels.
  • Disinfects equipment.
  • Loads and unloads dishwasher.
  • Stores, maintains and refills disinfectant according to hospital specifications.
  • Sets up and cleans up therapy rooms for specific procedures.
  • Delivers and picks up equipment for special disinfecting procedures.
  • Closes site following established procedure.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of patient files.
  • Copies forms, reports, records.
  • Addresses and fills envelopes for mailings.
  • Prepares packages for mailing.
  • Sends copy requests to Copy Center.
  • Faxes documents according to Hospital policy.
  • Sorts and distributes mail and reports to appropriate staff.
  • Distributes office supplies and therapy materials upon delivery.
  • Accepts, verifies, and puts away supplies when delivered.
  • Orders food for therapy services.
  • Performs other clerical duties as back up or as assigned.
  • Maintains department supplies/materials, including inventory, ordering and restocking.
  • Delivers basic modality treatments after having been instructed and credentialed in safety techniques and precautions under the direct supervision of a therapist to include hot/cold packs, Hydra, but not to include Electrical Stimulation or advanced therapeutic techniques.
  • Prepares patient for treatment to facilitate patient care.
  • Prepares patient for treatment after having been instructed and credentialed in safety techniques and precautions.
  • Removes bandages/dressings prior to treatment; rebandages after completion of treatment if indicated.
  • Assists patient with dressing and undressing.
  • Performs patient transportation and routine errands between various rehabilitation settings.
  • Performs transporting duties as requested, i.e., wheelchair and cart and various life support equipment meeting an assigned schedule.
  • Delivers supplies and equipment to patient’s room and rehab satellite units.
  • Completes errands throughout hospital as assigned.
  • Performs basic gait training and therapeutic exercise under the direct supervision of a therapist to aide in the delivery of patient care.
  • Performs basic gait training with patients after the therapist has instructed the patient and aide in the proper gait technique and precautions.
  • Performs basic exercises with patients after the therapist has instructed the aide and patient in the proper technique and precautions.
  • Performs basic patient transfer techniques to facilitate patient care.
  • Performs basic patient transfer techniques after having been instructed and credentialed in safety techniques and precautions.
  • Performs the transfer techniques, stand pivot, slide board, sit to stand, and cart transfers under the direct supervision of a therapist to aid in the delivery of patient care.
  • Communicates potential patient problems and abnormal patient behavior to attending therapist.
  • Communication of patient’s needs/problems and notification of appropriate clinical staff to facilitate patient care.
  • Provides information regarding observed patient problem(s)/need and immediately notifies appropriate clinical staff.
  • Utilization of proper isolation procedures & techniques as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of isolation procedures and utilizes proper techniques as appropriate especially in hydrotherapy area after having been instructed and credentialed in safety techniques and precautions.
  • Responsible for self-development.
  • Participates in hospital/facility activities, including inservices and educational programs.
  • Actively works towards completion of individual and related departmental goals.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings and inter/intradepartmental team meetings.
  • Performance of other clerical and patient care responsibilities as required.
