As a critical member of the patient care team, Pediatric Registered Nurses (RN) are responsible for providing age-appropriate care to patients in their practice setting. This role requires an empathetic and comprehensive listener who can develop nursing assessments, respond appropriately in emergencies, and evaluate data for interpretations. The ideal candidate is a logical thinker who can recognize patient learning needs, coordinate teaching plans, and provide education. Resourcefulness in initiating referrals and utilizing available resources is key. The nurse will also assist providers with developing care goals, involve patients and families in care plans, administer immunizations and treatments, perform diagnostic tests, and act as a patient champion. Organizational skills are needed for managing immunizations and stocking, and the role involves documenting in the electronic health record, preparing test results, and processing patient phone calls and refills.
