About The Position

This position involves filling routine dosage orders and prepackaging pharmaceuticals as directed. The intern will measure, mix, count, label, and record amounts of dosages and prescriptions. Additionally, the intern will train lower-level pharmacy technicians and assist pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions. The duties are general in nature and management reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy and actively pursuing a degree and licensure as a pharmacist.
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescribed medications.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform basic supervisory functions.
  • Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.

  • Prior experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Add measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) packs under supervision.
  • Assists in the dispensing of prescriptions; counts, packages, and labels dosages.
  • Prices and files prescriptions.
  • Cleans and helps maintain equipment and work area; sterilizes glassware according to established procedures.
  • Inputs and maintains patient profiles, including list of medications taken by individual patient.
  • Computes charges for medication and equipment dispensed to patients and enters data.
  • Prepares and processes medical insurance claims forms and records.
