About The Position

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Patient Care Services Team, and is responsible for the satisfactory completion of nursing care by the nursing team. The RN manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members including ancillary and support services. The role of the Registered Nurse at the DMC encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, teaching and supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of nursing required.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required.
  • Pediatric nursing experience preferred, or experience caring for medically complex patients.
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • A passion for patient and family education
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • A willingness to learn all aspects of peritoneal dialysis
  • The ability to work collaboratively with our nephrologists and multidisciplinary team while also functioning independently.
  • Professionalism, accountability, compassion, and a commitment to delivering family-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and other health care providers
  • Delegates, assesses, provides and evaluates patient care
  • Provides and delegates patient care activities to team members
  • Monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge
  • Reports directly to senior unit management and participates in shared decision-making activities
  • Teaching caregivers how to safely perform peritoneal dialysis at home
  • Learning all aspects of peritoneal dialysis, including the Vantive home dialysis platforms, treatment troubleshooting, exit-site care, infection prevention, and home therapy support
  • Developing into a resource for the PD program and provide clinical leadership to help ensure continuity of care during planned or unplanned absences of our full-time PD RN
