About The Position

This is a volunteer opportunity for individuals interested in Physical or Occupational Therapy or anyone who enjoys supporting children and helping create a positive, engaging environment in a healthcare setting. Volunteers work closely with staff in the Rehab Therapy department to help keep the gym running smoothly and to support therapists in preparing for patient sessions. Volunteers do not provide hands-on clinical care; all direct patient therapy is performed by licensed therapists.

Requirements

  • Age 18+
  • Experience working or volunteering with children.
  • Able to commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for at least 6 months.
  • Physically able to assist with light cleaning and movement of equipment (20–30 lbs), kneeling, standing, or floor sitting as needed.
  • Must be flexible and willing to support various areas based on daily needs, as directed by Volunteer Supervisor.
  • If you are a former or current MSK patient, you must be out of active treatment for at least one year.
  • Friendly, reliable, and comfortable engaging with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist therapists by preparing materials and activity setups such as obstacle courses, stacking activities, or ball tosses.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe therapy environment by changing linens and lightly cleaning equipment between sessions.
  • Support staff with general room turnover and preparation for upcoming patients.
  • Encourage a welcoming, energetic atmosphere for pediatric patients and families.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists and other volunteers to ensure sessions run efficiently.
