About The Position

The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is a Board-Certified advanced practitioner who is trained to provide care, coordination, and management of the pediatric orthopedic patient in the outpatient, peri-operative, and intra-operative settings. The NP/PA will work in collaboration with the orthopedic surgeon to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients in the ambulatory setting and to provide support in the surgical setting. Additionally, a primary focus of the NP/PA will be to collaborate with MD in the operating room. The NP/PA will practice both autonomously and in concert with other medical professionals to screen and optimize the care for patients who are seeking both surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care. The NP/PA will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage conditions ranging in complexity. The NP/PA will provide intraoperative support as needed, including OR protocol adherence and managing patients in the peri-operative setting. The NP/PA will have prescriptive privileges for both medicinal and therapeutic age-related modalities. The NP/PA will also serve as a resource, mentor, and educator for the pediatric patient, their family and other healthcare members. The NP/PA may also be expected to participate in departmental development or research activities conducted in collaboration with other pediatric health care team members.

Requirements

  • Board-Certified advanced practitioner.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Obtains/Maintains NP licenses in New York.
  • PNP Required, FNP may be considered with demonstrated pediatric experience.
  • Obtains/Maintains board certification as a NP in specialty area of practice.
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS via American Heart Association.
  • DEA certification.
  • RNFA will be required to obtain during orientation if not already accquired.

  • Maintains competence and compliance with NP/PA Certification, CME requirements, BLS, PALs, and DEA certifications and attends NP/PA lectures, meetings, skills labs and hospital sponsored Conferences/Rounds when possible while demonstrating an interest in expanding and developing their knowledge base/skills as a NP/PA.
  • Complies with policies and procedures concerning infection control and safety in order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and staff while complying with their Annual Health Assessment requirement.
