Pediatric Optometrist
About The Position
We are seeking a Pediatric Optometrist for a locum tenens position in Oakland, CA. This role involves providing comprehensive pediatric optometry services in an outpatient and hospital setting. The optometrist will evaluate and manage patients with strabismus and binocular vision disorders, perform patient workups, assessments, and treatment planning, and document patient encounters accurately within the Epic EMR. Collaboration with ophthalmologists, technicians, and multidisciplinary pediatric specialists is essential. The coverage period is from August 3, 2026, to January 29, 2027, with a clinical shift schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The patient volume is approximately 12-14 patients per day, primarily pediatric, with some adults with developmental delays and double vision. The case mix includes pediatric optometry, strabismus, binocular vision exams, and developmental and high-acuity pediatric cases. The facility is a Pediatric Level I-IV trauma center equipped with full pediatric ophthalmology imaging devices and diagnostic equipment, with specialty backup from ophthalmologists and pediatric specialists, and support staff including technicians, ophthalmologists, and optometrists.
Requirements
- Active California Optometry license required
- BLS required
- Minimum 3 years of pediatric population experience in a medical center setting if no pediatric residency completed
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree required
- Extensive experience with complex pediatric populations required
