About The Position

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking nurses for its Inpatient Units. The Pediatric Oncology Nurse II position on Kay 4 nights (36 hours per week) supports patients with hematology disorders or leukemia and lymphoma disease. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required.
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment skills.
  • Intermediate critical thinking skills.
  • Intermediate pain assessment skills.
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Strong clinical nursing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong patient education skills.
  • Current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
  • Current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, as applicable.
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest quality of care to pediatric patients with hematology disorders, leukemia, or lymphoma.
  • Care for patients enrolled in current protocol enrollments that will revolutionize treatment for hematology and leukemia/lymphoma disease.
  • Bring hearts and minds to the bedside, wiping tears, holding hands, and smiling relentlessly to combat disease.
  • Work in a dynamic and challenging, yet rewarding, environment.
  • Assess and interpret age-specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Utilize strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Demonstrate proven performance in earlier roles.
