About The Position

The Pediatric Oncology Nurse II position is at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on the Kay 4 unit, which supports patients with hematology disorders or leukemia and lymphoma disease. This role involves caring for patients in current protocol enrollments that aim to revolutionize treatment for these diseases. Kay 4 is a 17-bed unit that offers small nurse to patient ratios, and the team provides the highest quality of care. The role involves three 12-hour shifts with assigned Saturday/Sunday and alternating holiday requirements. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required.
  • BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required.
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
  • Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
  • Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred as applicable.
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
