About The Position
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a full-time Pediatric Neuropsychologist for the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Emory University School of Medicine. This open-rank faculty position involves overseeing and developing neurofunctional assessments, translating findings into therapeutic approaches, supervising students/residents, counseling families on neuropathology and neuropsychological deficits, coordinating a clinical database, promoting research, and assisting in policy development. The role emphasizes providing the highest quality of care, maintaining safety, and collaborating with patients, families, and professionals. The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is a national leader in childhood cancer, hematology, and bone marrow transplant programs, with a strong multidisciplinary team. The position is primarily clinical (up to 80% time dedicated to patient care), with opportunities for research if grant funding is secured. Responsibilities include comprehensive neuropsychological assessments, program development, disease-specific screening clinics, supervision of fellows and students, and coordinating data for collaborative trials. The position is based in Atlanta, GA.
Requirements
- PhD/PsyD from an APA/CPA-accredited program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology
- Completion of an APA/CPA-accredited internship
- Completion of a two-year Neuropsychological Fellowship with specific focus in pediatric neuropsychology
- Currently licensed as a psychologist or license eligible to practice in Georgia
- Eligible to obtain board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology
- Special training and/or experience in pediatric neuropsychology
- 4 years of experience in direct assessment and care of patients identified as having neurological diagnoses in an inpatient and outpatient setting
- Experience in providing family therapy/counseling related to issues of impaired neurofunctioning
- Excellent writing and research skills
- Ability to supervise students
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

- Related pediatric hematology/oncology experience
- Board certification (ABPP) in Clinical Neuropsychology
Responsibilities
- Oversees and develops neurofunctional assessments, including neuropsychological and psychological batteries.
- Assists with translating the findings from these batteries into therapeutic approaches which can be utilized by a transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary team.
- Participates in the supervision of students/residents.
- Counsels and educates families concerning neuropathology and management of neuropsychological deficits.
- Assists with the coordination of a clinical database and promotes research.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures to provide the highest quality of care for patients within the scope of practice and established standards for psychologists.
- Maintains the highest standards of safety throughout service provision.
- Cooperates and collaborates with parents, caretakers, and other professionals to meet the total needs of the patient and family.
- Provides effective delivery of services appropriate to the patient’s specific needs and severity level of disability or impairment.
- Implements and oversees inpatient cognitive remediation techniques.
- Provides appropriate assessment and appropriate treatment.
- Develops and successfully implements assessment standards and treatment plans that support established goals.
- Documents weekly/monthly treatment notes following established standards.
- Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement.
- Bills appropriately for services in accordance with regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- Provides supervision to the psychometrician and students.
- Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
- Delivers competent patient care, integrating infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development.
- Delivers competent patient care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age.
- Demonstrates and practices family-centered care.
- Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
- Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of understanding.
- Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
- Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patient’s program.
