Children’s Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) are recruiting a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Nephrologist. The physician will join a multidisciplinary Division of Pediatric Nephrology comprising six physicians, five advanced practice providers, specialized nephrology and pediatric dialysis nurses, transplant coordinators, renal dieticians, a pharmacist, a nurse case manager, and a social worker, with additional access to child life specialists, music therapists, and education specialists. The position offers a faculty appointment at UNMC, commensurate with prior rank and experience, and potential early-career leadership opportunities, including medical directorships. The division provides comprehensive pediatric nephrology care, including inpatient and outpatient dialysis, pediatric kidney transplantation, inpatient consultations, and outpatient services at Children’s Nebraska and Nebraska Medicine. Care spans prenatal consultation through transition to adult nephrology care, and includes multidisciplinary work with Pediatric Urology and prenatal teams. The division operates Nebraska’s only pediatric dialysis unit, providing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and CRRT, as well as plasma exchange services. Physicians manage the medical care of pediatric kidney transplant patients in collaboration with Nebraska Medicine’s transplant program. Research opportunities are available, potentially supported by the Child Health Research Institute, NIH ECHO, and IDeA states funding. Current projects involve collaboration with Neonatology, Biochemistry, Nutrition, and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Providers participate in research and quality-improvement collaboratives, including the Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium, SCOPE, IROC, WE-ROCK, and ICONIIC. Children’s Nebraska is a 279-bed nonprofit pediatric healthcare organization serving children across a five-state region and beyond. Its facilities include a 55-bed Level IV NICU, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, a 32-bed PICU, a 32-bed Cardiac Care Unit, and the Behavioral Health & Wellness Center, which opened in January 2026. UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are regional academic health institutions with education, research, and patient-care programs, including an active pediatric transplant program that averages approximately 10 isolated pediatric kidney transplants annually. The position is based in the Omaha area, which offers four seasons, cultural and recreational activities, schools, and a cost of living below the national average.
