The Pediatric Mental Health Specialist position provides the opportunity to grow your career in the mental and behavioral health field by learning de-escalation skills and techniques, gaining an understanding of behaviors, building rapport, and problem solving. PMHSs are coaches for our patients. PMHSs work directly with patients and help lead them through a series of scheduled activities, including skills groups. These groups promote healthy problem-solving, social, and coping skills that are developmentally appropriate for each age group. PMHSs work with complex and acute psychiatric patients in a fast-paced environment, implementing interventions that promote a safe and therapeutic setting for patients, families, and staff. The PBMU is an inpatient crisis stabilization unit where we treat children ages 3–17 who are in psychiatric crisis. Our 41-bed unit is split into three programs: Child, Adolescent, and the Biobehavioral Inpatient Program.
