The Nursing Assistant works under the direction of a licensed nurse in the provision of direct patient care including the admission and discharge process. The Nursing Assistant assists or performs procedures according to physician order and nursing delegation, based on validation and skill level. The position identifies changes in patient's condition and communicates these changes to the Nurse immediately. Provides assistance with basic cares, transporting and patient transfers. Contributes to and assists in implementing plan of care that reflects the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental and rehabilitative needs based on patient's age, ethnic origin, economic status, lifestyle, creed or philosophical beliefs. Demonstrates competency and ability to carry out department specific functions in accordance to the department's standards of care, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department/organization. Contributes to the assessment of the health status of patients, including interactions with patient's family members by collecting basic subjective and objective data from observations and interviews, including taking vital signs and reporting and recording appropriately. Identifies basic signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status and provides basic information which licensed nurses use in identification of problems and needs. Reports the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly according to standard operating procedure.
