About The Position

To inspire health, wellbeing, and humanity in our community, through all of life’s stages. The qualified Pediatric Dentist will provide high quality dental care in the full scope of dental in treating problems associated with the teeth and surrounding tissues in the mouth, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and dental maintenance to patients. The Pediatric Dentist would be an integral part of the care team and work collaboratively with all patients and staff. For over 30 years, Tepeyac Community Health Center has been committed to providing integrated physical and behavioral health care to nearly 10,000 individuals across the Denver metro area. Tepeyac has distinguished itself as a dynamic organization dedicated to eliminating health disparities, particularly among Latino and immigrant communities. Tepeyac maintains an unwavering commitment to effective patient care, continual quality improvement, and the consistent treatment of each patient with the highest level of respect and compassion. Over the next 3-5 years, Tepeyac seeks to continue to expand medical, dental, behavioral, and pharmacy services, providing culturally relevant high-quality care. Tepeyac understands that treatment of the whole person includes medical, behavioral health and dental care. All three are needed to achieve the utmost quality of care and coordination for patients. Dental decay is the number one chronic disease in children that is 100% preventable —5 times more common than asthma, 4 times more common than early- childhood obesity, and 20 times more common than diabetes. Decay can affect speech and communication, eating and dietary nutrition, sleeping, learning, playing and quality of life, missed school and/or work for patients of all ages.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Colorado.
  • Completed residency/specialty training in pediatric dentistry or 3 years’ experience working in a pediatric office.
  • D.D.S. or D.M.D., and good standing with dental board and dental associations.
  • Valid unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (“DEA”) license.
  • Previous experience providing care to Individuals with intellectual and development disabilities.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide evidence-based care appropriate to pediatric patients.
  • Excellent leadership, customer service and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving/conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative problem-solving and execution skills.
  • Contribute to a positive team, support others, and work well in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Stay informed on cutting-edge contributions to the health field, sharing relevant ideas internally to balance evidence-based practices with unproven but high-potential pilots to inform Tepeyac Community Health Center’s evolving model.

  • Bilingual and/or proficient in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pediatric focused dental care, which includes diagnosis, preventative dentistry, operative dentistry, sedation, periodontics, pupal therapy and oral surgery.
  • Develop treatment plans for patient’s teeth and gums and can communicate that plan effectively to the patient and family.
  • Prescribe medications for antibiotics and other medications.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Accurately reviews diagnostic radiographic images and develops appropriate course of action based on clinical assessment.
  • Participates in School Based Health Program providing synchronous diagnosis for school-based hygienist or by providing direct patient care.
  • Act as subject matter expert for dental team related to knowledge and principles of pediatric dental care, including staying up to date on evidence-based behavior management and risk-based procedures.
  • Partners with Tepeyac Operations Team in ordering dental supplies and ensures supply levels are appropriate.
  • Collaborate with integrative health team members, including medical and behavioral health staff to coordinate care for patients served.
  • Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement program, including peer review.
  • Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Support Tepeyac partnerships with student teaching programs, acting as preceptor/supervisor when required.
  • Exhibit positive leadership skills, actively partnering with the dental team and site leadership to improve operational efficiency, patient experience and clinical care.
  • Attend required internal meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
