About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited dental assistant training program.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and pediatric dental procedures.
  • Ability to pass a background check and comply with state-specific dental assistant licensing requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Technical skills applied when assisting the dentist with instruments and operating dental equipment safely and accurately.
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols.
  • Proficiency with dental software and record-keeping.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working specifically in a pediatric dental setting.
  • Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems used in dental practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in child-friendly communication techniques.
  • Additional training in behavior management or child psychology.
  • Certified in Coronal Polishing and Sealant placement.
  • Certified to take X-rays.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize dental instruments, materials, and equipment prior to patient appointments.
  • Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations and procedures by handing instruments and managing suction devices.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols, including instrument sterilization and treatment area disinfection.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to young patients and their families to explain procedures and promote oral health education.
  • Manage patient records accurately, including documenting treatment details and updating medical histories.
  • Support scheduling and administrative tasks as needed to facilitate efficient patient flow.
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory of dental supplies, ordering replacements as needed.
