About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a BC/BE Pediatric Critical Care Intensivist to join the team at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Bismarck, ND. This role involves providing critical care management for children from neonates to adolescents experiencing life-threatening organ system failure. The position is at a Level II Adult Trauma Center within Sanford Children’s Hospital, which includes a monitored pediatric unit and a 26-bed Level II NICU. The hospital supports approximately 300 admissions to intermediate and PICU levels of care and is supported by AirMed transport services. Sanford's Children's Hospital is a supporting member of NACHRI, and its PICU participates in the VPS database, while the NICU participates in the Vermont Oxford Network.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. degree.
Successful completion of a hospital-affiliated Pediatric residency program.
Completion of a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
Demonstrate at least 50 Pediatric Critical Care procedures in the last 12 months (either via fellowship log or quality profile from current hospital privileges).

Nice To Haves

A minimum of one year of experience is preferred.
Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process.

Responsibilities

Perform history and physical examination.
Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
Evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultative services.
Provide critical care management of life-threatening organ system failure from any cause in children, from the term or near-term neonate to the adolescent.
Support of vital physiological functions, including but not limited to: shock, coma, elevated intracranial pressure, seizures, infections, acute and chronic renal failure, acute endocrine electrolyte emergencies (including diabetic ketoacidosis), sepsis, heart failure, trauma, acute and chronic respiratory failure, drug overdoses, massive bleeding, central nervous system dysfunction (including cerebral resuscitation), and kidney failure.
