About The Position

The APP Fellowship in pediatric critical care is a post-graduate, 12-month education program for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) interested in working at the University of Rochester Golisano Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Medical ICU and Pediatric Cardiac Care Center. The program is designed for new graduate APPs or those with limited acute care pediatric experience, encompassing both didactic instruction and clinical experiences. It aims to build upon graduate academic training to broaden and develop the fellow’s knowledge and skill set in pediatric critical care. The program includes core rotations in the pediatric cardiac care center, pediatric intensive care unit, and specialty rotations for enhanced education. Additional didactics will include procedural skill labs, high fidelity simulations, and mentorship for Quality Improvement (QI) or research involvement.

  • For Nurse Practitioners: Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner
  • For Physician Assistants: Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program
  • For Physician Assistants: Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing
  • For Physician Assistants: Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
  • Demonstrate clinical competence
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills
  • Computer competence
  • Active desire to learn

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training
