About The Position

This is a unique opportunity to practice at the top of your license while supporting highly specialized pediatric populations, including Hematology and Oncology, within a nationally recognized academic health system. You will serve as a key contributor to interdisciplinary care while advancing medication safety and outcomes for children across the continuum. As a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist in acute care, you will play an integral role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based pharmacotherapy within a fast-paced pediatric environment. You will collaborate directly with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to clinical decision-making across a wide range of complex cases. Your practice will span a broad and engaging scope, including structured rotations and specialized pediatric services. Beyond direct patient care, you will contribute to broader pharmacy and health system initiatives: Participate in order optimization within the electronic medical record to enhance safety and efficiency. Advance patient safety initiatives and medication stewardship efforts. Partner closely with medical teams to support safe and seamless transitions of care. Engage in the academic mission by supporting education for residents, students, and trainees. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Pharmacy or Pharm. D Degree required.
  • PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience. (3.years).
  • Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy. License required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider. BLS certification required

Nice To Haves

  • PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert clinical pharmacy support across a 126-bed pediatric enterprise, primarily on the day shift
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary rounds, providing real-time pharmacotherapy recommendations, dosing optimization, and monitoring strategies
  • Rotate through key practice areas, including: Inpatient Hematology/Oncology, and GI; General Pediatrics, including Endocrine, Renal, Cardiac, and Solid Organ Transplant (liver, kidney, heart) populations; Ambulatory Infusion Center; Optional rotations in Ambulatory Hematology/Oncology and Rheumatology
  • Provide weekend clinical coverage every fourth weekend, rotating between day and evening shifts
  • Evaluate complex patient cases by synthesizing clinical data to identify and resolve medication-related problems
  • Participate in order optimization within the electronic medical record to enhance safety and efficiency
  • Advance patient safety initiatives and medication stewardship efforts
  • Partner closely with medical teams to support safe and seamless transitions of care
  • Engage in the academic mission by supporting education for residents, students, and trainees
