The VNA of the Treasure Coast is seeking a Pediatric Bereavement Counselor to provide skilled bereavement services to pediatric clients experiencing grief, before or after the death of a loved one. Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in social services field
  • Master’s degree in related field required
  • This position requires a screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
  • This position requires screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual, family and group counseling for all pediatric clients within Hospice and the community.
  • Completes bereavement assessments and develops a Plan of Care based on ongoing assessment, before and/or after patient death as needed.
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to address bereavement needs of patients/families and serves as consult to the team regarding grief issues.
  • Advocate for the emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and families.
  • Deliver care in a non-judgmental manner, with a focus on patient (client)-centered care.
  • Supports patient families with minor children at Hospice House.
  • Refers families and/or individuals to appropriate community resources, both locally and nationally.
  • Organize and implement Camp Chrysalis programming and interventions.
  • Act as liaison for student referrals from Indian River County School District.
  • Foster working relationships with community organizations that support children and liaise on joint programming.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, and solution-focused approaches.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping and documentation, per agency policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participates in orientation of new employees and volunteers.
  • Provides consultation to members of staff, families, community agencies, and other persons seeking guidance with grief issues.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of all Bereavement events and programming.
  • Participates in in-services and QAPI activities.
  • Represents the VNA at interagency and community educational/meetings.
