About The Position

Pasadena Christian School is an independent Christian K-8 school that serves a diverse community ethnically, economically, and in the Christian faith. Together, we have served the Pasadena area since 1947. The PE Coach for Elementary and Junior High is responsible for developing and implementing physical education programs that promote physical fitness, healthy habits, and sportsmanship among students. The coach will teach fundamental skills in a variety of sports, physical activities, and exercises while fostering teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence. This role also involves organizing and overseeing sports events, competitions, and fitness activities that align with the student’s developmental levels.

Requirements

Knowledge of various sports, fitness training techniques, and child development.
Previous experience working with children in a PE or coaching capacity, ideally in elementary or junior high settings.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to motivate students, promote a positive attitude toward fitness, and create an inclusive environment for all skill levels.
Bachelor’s degree in physical education, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and teach physical education classes that promote physical fitness, motor skills development, and healthy lifestyles.
Introducing students to a variety of sports and physical activities, including team sports (e.g., soccer, basketball, volleyball), individual sports (e.g., track and field, gymnastics), and recreational activities.
Teach and demonstrate proper techniques for physical activities, ensuring students understand the rules, strategies, and safety guidelines for each sport.
Ensure lessons are age-appropriate and cater to different skill levels, from beginners to more advanced students.
Encourage healthy habits and educate students on the importance of regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and personal fitness.
Design activities that improve students’ overall fitness, including strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination.
Promote the development of positive social behaviors, such as teamwork, cooperation, respect, and sportsmanship.
Establish clear rules and expectations for behavior during physical education classes and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all students.
Manage large groups of students, keeping them engaged, motivated, and focused on their physical education tasks.
Address any disciplinary issues constructively and educationally.
Develop and lead after-school sports programs or intramural leagues for junior high students, promoting participation and enjoyment of sports.
Organize and supervise school sports teams, coaching students in preparation for competitions, tournaments, and games.
Plan and coordinate school-wide physical activities, such as field days, fitness challenges, or sports events, fostering school spirit and camaraderie.
Assess students’ physical abilities and fitness levels through observation, skill tests, and fitness assessments.
Provide feedback on student progress and offer strategies for improvement in physical fitness and sports performance.
Track students’ participation and achievements, reporting progress to parents and school administrators as necessary.
Ensure that all physical activities are conducted safely and that students are using proper techniques and equipment to prevent injuries.
Maintain and organize PE equipment, ensuring that all items are in good working condition and suitable for student use.
Provide first aid and respond to any accidents or injuries that occur during PE activities.
Work with other teachers, school staff, and administrators to coordinate PE activities with the broader school curriculum and events.
Communicate with parents about student progress, upcoming sports events, and opportunities for involvement in physical education programs.
Stay updated on current trends in physical education and health, participating in professional development opportunities as needed.
