About The Position

Under the direction of the assigned manager, assist in maintaining, setting up and securing assigned athletic facilities; assist in storing, issuing, receiving and maintaining assigned athletic equipment; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in college physical education classes and athletic programs.
  • Knowledge of storage, inventory and minor equipment and uniform repair methods.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in the maintenance of athletic equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of laundering uniforms and towels.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of setting up athletic facilities for practices and competition.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of cleaning and sterilization.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Word and Excel); website editing and publishing procedures.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain, issue and make repairs to physical education and athletic equipment.
  • Ability to set up required equipment for assigned athletic events and physical education classes.
  • Ability to preserve, clean and disinfect athletic equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files and prepare required reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime as required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to pass the annual California Community Colleges Athletic Association (CCCAA) rules exam with a score of 80% or higher.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff as demonstrated by skills and abilities in cultural responsiveness and cultural humility.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months experience in equipment handling and record keeping in a sports program.
  • A valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required by the time of appointment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid first aid/CPR certificate within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up various athletic equipment for physical education classes and sporting events including tables, chairs, bleachers and scoreboards; make minor repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Clean and sweep gymnasium floors before athletic events; remove litter and debris.
  • Receive, mark, store, issue, check and inventory physical education and athletic equipment and supplies; repair athletic equipment as needed.
  • Issue locks, lockers and combinations for athletes and physical education students; maintain log of locker assignments; clean out lockers at the end of semester.
  • Measure student athletes for uniforms; issue and check in uniforms; prepare uniforms and equipment for away games; maintain related records.
  • Receive issue and distribute athletic equipment to physical education instructors and coaches; clean, store and sterilize CPR masks and mannequins; wrap masks individually in cellophane.
  • Distribute, account for and launder uniforms and towels used in physical education and sporting events for women; preserve, clean and disinfect equipment and supplies.
  • Take inventory of all equipment and prepare required reports; order equipment as required.
  • Contact merchants to rectify the receipt of defective or damaged merchandise.
  • Update athletic website rosters, schedules, biographies, competition results, photos and news and press contents for all men’s and women’s sports teams, or other website updates requested by the department.
  • Respond to questions and inquiries regarding athletic events and operations.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
