The PDI Route Driver operates company vehicles and equipment safely and professionally to deliver products promptly to customers. The driver completes required paperwork and performs customer service at store locations, including product placement, check-in, credits, temperature-trip requirements, and handling returns and paperwork. The role also handles contract shipments and backhauls, verifying counts and product temperatures, tagging pallets, reporting discrepancies, and completing documentation. The driver follows company policies and Department of Transportation requirements, including hours-of-service rules, electronic logging or paper logs if the system fails, inspections, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Work schedules and departure times may vary; drivers submit daily bids for scheduled workdays and respond to dispatcher call times for AM or PM routes. Some routes may require layovers. The position involves extended periods of sitting, physical handling of freight, and exposure to cold temperatures and varying weather. A neat appearance and PDI uniform are required when driving. A pre-employment physical, drug screen, lift test, and background check are required.
