About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Product Development and Metrology Labs in Muskegon Tech Center as well as coordinating the overall services and budgets of all Product Development Lab projects in the region.

Requirements

  • A degree in an applicable engineering field and five (5) or more years in product development and testing is required.
  • A strong educational background in mechanical, electronics and electrical technology; a working knowledge of valve assembly, cam phasers, internal combustion engine operation, test specification development and understanding and extensive experience in metrology and prototype test equipment and methods is required.
  • Experience in developing test software with Labview will be required.

  • Previous supervision experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and prioritize lab work to meet required completion dates and support ongoing product development activities.
  • Monitor and track gage calibration of PD Lab, Metrology lab and electronic test equipment to ensure gage accuracy with traceability to national standards.
  • Motivate, instruct, encourage and review subordinates to keep morale high and assure maximum productivity and accuracy.
  • Schedule and track all PD Lab and Metrology assignments. Monitor progress on programs balancing human resources and equipment needs and availability to maintain the efficiency and responsiveness of the North American labs.
  • Provide ongoing communication on work progress and results, to assist Managers and Engineers in meeting commitments to customer for production information.
  • Manage the prototype parts inventory to assure an adequate supply of components for prototype builds.
  • Routinely asses the test capabilities of all North American lab locations with the purpose of coordination of lab resources, maintaining lab equipment, identifying continuous improvement areas and development of personnel skills.
  • Responsible for lab budgets including lab capital projects at all locations.
  • Develop standardization to ensure all North American labs have similar test equipment, software and work/job instructions.
  • Support/review/write performance test specifications for products and systems in coordination with the responsible product and test engineers.
  • Review and signoff on DVP&R plans as well as plan and schedule testing across all locations.
  • Writing/reviewing of result reports from PD Lab and Metrology.
  • Other duties as required.
