About The Position

Provides leadership and mentoring to other direct care staff in the areas of building therapeutic relationships, providing trust-building, strength-based individualized care that is consistent with the child’s treatment plan, and using the least restrictive interventions necessary while upholding the rights and dignity of children and their families at all times. Provides direct care to psychiatric minor patients while modeling and coaching other staff on positive work habits as they relate to patient care, and as such this position is considered “essential” and is expected to report as scheduled during emergency events.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of Center policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and agency regulations related to supervision of direct care staff.
  • Considerable knowledge of the characteristics of the assigned population of children.
  • Considerable knowledge of all therapeutic programs delivered in the unit.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child/adolescent development and needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated successful mastery of and ability to mentor other staff in areas including planning activities, collecting behavioral data, writing reports, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment plans, interacting/communicating successfully with children/adolescents with a variety of physical and mental disabilities, participating in therapeutic activities, and providing assistance with activities of daily living and hygiene.
  • Willingness to play a lead role and ability to interact and intervene verbally and physically in crisis situations, in order to properly mentor other staff.
  • Successful completion of TOVA and CPR.
  • Ability to work overtime if needed.
  • Ability to observe and describe observations orally and in writing.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a similar position assisting with the treatment of child and adolescent mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health issues and resources from other training sources.
