About The Position

The PBX Operator is responsible for managing internal and external calls, providing information, directing calls to appropriate departments, and monitoring emergency communication systems within a hospital setting. This role requires the ability to remain calm and focused during emergencies, handle difficult callers, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Comprehensive training is provided, including phone systems, emergency paging, code announcements, and hospital communication protocols. Emergency code announcements are noted as the most challenging aspect of the role, requiring significant practice.

Responsibilities

Answer and screen incoming internal and external calls
Provide callers with information and direct calls to the appropriate departments
Monitor emergency and priority phone lines and respond immediately to urgent communications
Dispatch security and facilities personnel via radio communication systems
Announce emergency codes and important notifications overhead throughout the hospital
Monitor security alarms, cameras, and communication systems
Coordinate with hospital staff while following established hospital communication protocols
