About The Position

Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of a PBX Operator. This position will professionally and courteously answer all PBX calls and direct all calls to the proper location. Takes physician calls and will transfer them to other physicians by using the Medical Staff Roster. Arrives at work on time as scheduled and properly clocks in and out as required by MMH policy. All operators will give proper notice according to the Attendance Policy of absence and tardiness. This position also includes notating all documentation in proper log books (i.e. Code Blue, Code Red, Code 1000 etc.), keeps all necessary on-call lists of departments, calls all emergency procedures overhead and pages all emergency teams, maintains a professional relationship with department and hospital staff, responding courteously and respectfully, exhibits acceptable interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, visitors and other staff, completes annual education and other required training in services and speaks clearly and concisely when paging overhead and on the radio.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Must have flexibility to work any of the following shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM, 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Communicates effectively (hear, listen, speak) with staff, patients, and families/visitors.

  • Maintains a professional relationship with department and hospital staff, responding courteously and respectfully.
  • Exhibits acceptable interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, visitors, and other staff.
  • Completes annual education and other required training.
  • Speaks clearly and concisely when paging overhead and on the radio.
  • Monitors alarms and notifies appropriate staff in the event of an activation.
  • Answers the phone with proper dialect every time a call comes in.
  • Responds to and exhibits knowledge of all emergency procedures (e.g., Code Blue, CAT codes).
