About The Position

The Payroll & Time Tracking Supervisor is responsible for the end-to-end administration, accuracy, and compliance of payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time across the full employee lifecycle. This role oversees all aspects of payroll processing, including regular payroll runs, off-cycle and retroactive payments, payroll audits and reconciliations, garnishments, tax compliance, and the resolution of complex payroll issues. The Payroll & Time Tracking Supervisor serves as the organization’s primary subject matter expert for Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence, with responsibility for system configuration, troubleshooting, testing, and ongoing optimization of these modules. This role ensures that payroll-related configurations, time entry processes, and absence calculations are designed and maintained to support accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll processing. In addition to operational ownership, the Payroll & Time Tracking Supervisor provides guidance and escalation support for complex payroll matters, working closely with internal teams to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, improve processes, and reduce recurring issues. The role partners with HRIS, Finance, and external vendors to maintain strong internal controls, support system enhancements, ensure regulatory compliance, and continuously improve payroll, time tracking, and absence processes. Through operational leadership and deep system expertise, the Payroll & Time Tracking Supervisor ensures payroll processes are reliable, scalable, and aligned with organizational policies while delivering a consistent and dependable employee experience.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll calculations, including Federal, State, and FICA withholding; gross-to-net processing
  • Strong working knowledge of FLSA rules and wage and hour requirements
  • Functional knowledge of associated HR/payroll business processes and best practices
  • Knowledge of Section 125 plans, COBRA, FMLA, retirement, wellness, and other benefit programs impacting payroll
  • Understanding of payroll compliance requirements, audits, and controls
  • Knowledge of Workday Payroll module best practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of Workday payroll functionality
  • Ability to serve as a subject-matter expert and primary escalation point for complex payroll inquiries
  • Skills and experience working cross-functionally with HRBPs, Finance, Benefits, and HRIS to resolve payroll-related issues
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve issues independently within policy
  • Ability to review, validate, and reconcile payroll data with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience identifying trends, errors, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Detail-oriented with a consistently high level of accuracy; meets deadlines and maintains strong organization in a fast-paced environment

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field.
  • Demonstrated payroll experience in a complex or multi-state environment
  • Experience supporting payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end processes
  • Experience with reporting, dashboards, and data analysis to support payroll operations
  • Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives, process documentation, and standard operating procedures
  • Prior experience acting in a lead or Supervisor capacity (e.g., mentoring peers, coordinating work, serving as escalation point)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the day‑to‑day operational Supervisor within the People Services function, supporting a consistent, accurate, and compliant payroll experience across the employee lifecycle.
  • The role is accountable for the effective supervision of the team, including oversight of daily activities, performance expectations, and adherence to established processes.
  • Act as a hands‑on payroll subject matter expert, providing guidance and resolution for complex payroll issues, escalations, and inquiries, while reinforcing a strong customer service mindset.
  • Own and execute payroll operations across multiple pay cycles in North America and Canada, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory and internal control requirements.
  • Own the Workday Payroll module, including configuration, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure efficient, scalable, and compliant payroll processes.
  • Identify inefficiencies and opportunities to streamline payroll and system processes, partnering with HRIS and stakeholders to design, document, and implement improvements.
  • Create, maintain, and execute a schedule of payroll‑related audits and reconciliations, including employee data and system controls, ensuring audit readiness and compliance.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for payroll specialists and key partners on complex or urgent payroll matters.
  • Partner closely with Finance and payroll vendors to support payroll accuracy, data integrity, and system enhancements.
  • Support ongoing change by participating in payroll‑related system updates, regulatory changes, and process enhancements, ensuring readiness and smooth execution.
  • Contribute to a positive employee and business experience by delivering timely, accurate, and value‑added responses to escalated People Services inquiries.
