About The Position

The Payroll Systems Specialist applies payroll and timekeeping expertise to problem solving and optimizing software solutions with minimal supervision. Maintains rule configurations and possesses extensive knowledge in the use and support of payroll and timekeeping systems. Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations for payroll processing workflow improvements. This role offers the best of both worlds with a remote-hybrid schedule, requiring just one to two days in the office each week. The position follows a Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule, with the ability to offer some flexibility to support work–life balance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree. In lieu of bachelors degree, leadership may accept five years of applicable work experience.
  • Generally, requires three years of related experience in payroll and timekeeping systems and may require specific training.
  • Thorough understanding of new implementation technology or processes and provides input for desired changes or updates required for master files.
  • Generates ad-hoc queries to support organizational objectives and supports leadership in decision-making.
  • Activities and services include testing and validating new upgrades and systems.
  • Implementing existing payroll system technologies including current locations, new locations, and mergers/acquisitions.
  • Advanced presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent mathematical skills and extensive knowledge of payroll related practices, concepts, regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Familiarity with the impact of collective bargaining agreements on payroll and timekeeping solutions.
  • Logical thinking and the ability to acquire an intricate knowledge of system software and hardware.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • A positive attitude and support skills are expected.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and willingness to implement new ideas.
  • Must be accepting of change and possess outstanding professionalism, poise, and tact.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Profession (CPP) designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains rule configurations for payroll and timekeeping systems for internal teams and affiliated sites.
  • Provides ongoing system support to internal teams and affiliated sites.
  • Utilizes project management principles to assist in achieving stated outcomes.
  • Keeps leadership advised of outstanding issues and support needs.
  • Makes recommendations related to payroll and timekeeping systems support and implementation.
  • Ensures projects are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Accountable for adherence to established project deadlines.
  • Responsible for coordinating change management, communication, and training activities related to pay practice, timekeeping, and all payroll related topics.
  • Regularly collaborates with payroll leadership to determine needs for communication and training.
  • Creates and/or proofs all publicly available content, to include email, eLearning curriculum, forms, website postings, policies, etc.
  • Collaborates with marketing on internal communications.
  • Conducts in-person and virtual training sessions on payroll processes for groups of internal and affiliated participants.
  • Modifies training in the moment based on audience needs.
  • Assists payroll leadership with strategic projects as assigned.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities for the department when others are absent.
