About The Position

The Payroll Supervisor serves as a payroll subject matter expert responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for our Corporate Office in Dearborn, MI. This role resolves complex payroll issues, maintains payroll data and reporting, supports accounting and system-related processes, and partners with internal stakeholders to improve payroll accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, IT, business, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of advanced payroll processing experience in ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, critical thinking and root-cause analysis
  • Technical knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures in IT field
  • Knowledge of ADP or other timekeeping software
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams to ensure communication and cooperation of team members and stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll, payroll law, FLSA and multi-state payroll processing
  • Ability to explain simple and complex procedures or topics (verbally or in writing) to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work occasionally beyond typical business hours

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the in-house payroll system is working as expected and in compliance with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations by establishing controls, monitoring results, and collaborating with Human Resources.
  • Provide recommendations and alternatives to business issues by assisting in defining, analyzing, configuring, and testing different processes and application solutions.
  • Collaborate with business resources to identify and develop process improvement initiatives.
  • Work with system consultants to resolve issues.
  • Respond to questions and proactively maintains regular communication with internal customers.
  • Serve as a payroll subject matter expert by supporting complex payroll processing, providing guidance on payroll procedures, and partnering with Payroll leadership to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Maintain payroll information by coordinating the collection, calculation, validation, and entry of payroll data.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc payroll reports for management, accounting, Human Resources, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Act as a back-up for payroll processing, including the production and issuance of paychecks and electronic transfers to employee bank accounts.
  • Act as a back-up for updating payroll records by reviewing and processing changes to exemptions, benefit coverage, union dues, other deductions, and tax information.
  • Balance the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Adheres to and supports internal company policies.
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating procedures and job aids.
  • Maintain employee privacy and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contribute to payroll team results by sharing technical expertise, supporting process improvements, and completing related payroll responsibilities as needed.
  • Manage third party sick pay to employees’ records and enters other balance adjustments to reconcile employee’s payroll for W-2 purposes.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
