About The Position

Berlin City Auto Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a multi-state organization with over 500 employees. This role is ideal for a hands-on payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and understands the complexities of commission-based pay, technician flat-rate compensation, and benefits deductions. You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while partnering with HR and Accounting to maintain compliance and improve processes. The hours for this position are 9:00 to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state environment
  • Experience processing payroll for mid-to-large organizations (300+ employees preferred)
  • Strong understanding of commission-based and/or hourly payroll structures (automotive experience a plus)
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Working knowledge of payroll accounting, including reconciliations and reporting
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Paylocity, ADP, or similar platforms
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data validation)
  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for 500+ employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Calculate and process commissions, bonuses, and technician flat-rate pay
  • Maintain payroll deductions, including benefits, garnishments, and taxes
  • Review and audit payroll data, including timecards, pay rates, and deductions
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and support general ledger entries in partnership with Accounting
  • Collaborate with HR and department leaders to resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Support payroll reporting and assist with internal and external audits
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime and multi-state requirements
  • Provide support and guidance to managers on timekeeping and payroll processes
