About The Position

The Payroll Specialist I is responsible for the prompt and accurate handling of all payroll matters. This role involves data entry, processing payroll, maintaining records, and assisting employees with payroll-related inquiries.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with data entry
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with payroll processing

Responsibilities

  • Open and sort incoming payrolls and courier mail.
  • Review all incoming payroll time sheets for accuracy of leave charged and time paid prior to computer input.
  • Key in information necessary to issue checks and update checks and payroll records.
  • Receive and screen payroll documents concerning employee changes of name or status and leave reports.
  • Assist in verification of pay checks against time sheet information for correctness.
  • Monitor time clock reports and train bookkeepers on Time Clock Plus.
  • Assist in Time Clock Plus Manager System.
  • Prepare and maintain records for Direct Deposit.
  • Collect necessary information to complete verification of earnings and prepare reply for Social Security, IRS, Department of Human Services and other governmental agencies.
  • Compare payroll checks with payroll documentation to make sure leave form types agree with payroll time sheets.
  • Responsible for W-2 replacement and correction.
  • Receive W-4's and input tax withholding changes.
  • Answer phones on a daily basis to assist employees with payroll issues.
  • Answer emails from bookkeepers and employees.
  • File and maintain permanent computer reports of employee payrolls and annual ledger status reports.
  • Assist as backup for Payroll Specialist II.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
