About The Position

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing the payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate payment of team members, and maintaining compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This role involves assisting with month-end processes, reconciling payroll accounts, generating reports, and implementing system and process improvements. The Payroll Manager will also work closely with department managers and accounting staff to monitor labor costs and ensure compliance with labor standards.

Requirements

  • Experience in payroll processing and management.

  • Ability to reconcile accounts and ensure balance sheet accuracy.
  • Proficiency in preparing payroll reports and financial statements.
  • Experience in system and process improvement for payroll functions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles related to payroll.
  • Ability to manage vacation and sick accruals, deductions, and reporting.
  • Experience working with department managers and accounting staff.
  • Familiarity with benchmarking, productivity, and key performance indicators.
  • Ability to conduct weekly labor management meetings.
  • Experience with record retention procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical plans, deductions, and union dues payment.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills regarding payroll matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month-end process as it relates to payroll costs and ensure all work is completed on time with relevant accounts reconciled.
  • Ensure balance sheets related to payroll accounts fairly reflect hotel assets.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent reporting that reconciles with financial accounts and the trial balance, providing proof of reconciliations monthly.
  • Responsible for reports, including the Balanced Scorecard, incorporating benchmarking, productivity, and identification/measurement of key performance indicators, tracking historical and forecasted performance.
  • Ensure Team Member pay queries are resolved in a timely basis.
  • Monitor actual hours to contracted hours.
  • Ensure effective controls are in place over payroll expenses.
  • Work with Finance Manager, Payroll Assistant, and IT Project Teams to deliver system and process improvements to enhance Payroll function efficiency.
  • Ensure all team members are paid for hours worked in a timely manner.
  • Oversee vacation and sick accruals, team member deductions, and federal/state reporting.
  • Review accuracy of payroll and deductions.
  • Responsible for the labor management system.
  • Work with department managers and accounting staff to monitor compliance with labor standards.
  • Perform Labor Management weekly meetings.
  • Oversee payroll systems to ensure all team members are paid for hours reported and applicable statutes and regulations are fully complied with.
  • Prepare payroll reports, conduct annual record retention procedures, and assist in processing quarterly and year-end closings.
  • Responsible for accounting duties related to the payroll system, including payroll accrual, vacation accrual, medical plan and deductions allocations, and union dues payment.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and regulations and advise department managers on pertinent payroll information.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the General Manager or Director of Finance.
