About The Position

Ecclesiastical Insurance Canada, part of Benefact Group, is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their Human Resources team in Toronto. This role involves managing end-to-end semi-monthly, multi-provincial payroll and total reward benefit programs for all Canadian colleagues. The specialist will also provide expertise in the design, interpretation, and implementation of corporate policies affecting payroll and benefits. Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years direct experience in payroll and benefit administration working in a corporate Human Resources department.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now is required.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively deal with sensitive information.
  • Strong time management skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end semi-monthly, multi-provincial payroll, including reviewing payroll output for accuracy before final processing.
  • Process all applicable payroll changes such as new hires, salary changes, retro-pay, top-ups, pay adjustments, termination pay, and ROEs.
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and regulations and inform relevant teams.
  • Prepare and complete reports and reconciliations for all payroll accounts, including federal and provincial taxes, year-end processing of T4 earnings, Employer Health Tax, and T2200s.
  • Support the annual audit process and budget preparation in conjunction with Finance and external auditors.
  • Provide ongoing assistance on projects related to the development and implementation of payroll and benefit procedures, systems, and global rules to align with organizational objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of the benefit and total rewards programs, including recommendations for enhancements, administration, and correspondence with benefit providers and brokers.
  • Verify and reconcile monthly invoices from benefit carriers to ensure accurate adjustments for new hires and terminated employees.
  • Provide data analytics for compensation surveys, payroll reporting, and benefits reporting, and support the submission of all regulatory reporting.
  • Support the preparation of annual compensation statements, spreadsheets, and confirmation letters.
  • Respond to payroll and benefit inquiries, action items from the HR inbox, and assist employees with online self-service registration.
  • Coordinate engagement activities related to payroll and benefits, such as lunch and learns, webinars, training, and communications.
  • Collaborate with the HR Team to provide support on other projects, duties, or tasks as required.
  • Ensure accurate and timely remittance of payroll taxes, benefits, and pension contributions to third parties.
