About The Position

Valiant Residential is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Manager to play a critical role in shaping the future of People & Culture at Valiant. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this role leads the payroll and benefits function end to end, with full ownership of payroll operations, benefits administration, HRIS (Paylocity) optimization, and regulatory compliance across a multi-state, multi-entity organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive payroll experience and three years of benefits administration experience supporting multi-site, multi-state operations. Experience in property management, hospitality, or similar operational environments preferred.
  • Advanced, hands-on experience with HRIS and payroll systems (payroll, time and labor, benefits, workflows, reporting, configuration, troubleshooting); Paylocity strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws, payroll tax principles, benefits compliance, and related reporting.
  • Experience supporting audits, reconciliations, and compliance reviews in partnership with Finance.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and sound judgment in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, growth environment.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills with a service-focused mindset.
  • Willingness to work 100% in-office; occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for multi-state, multi-entity environments, ensuring accurate and timely processing across weekly and semi-monthly payroll cycles.
  • Responsible for benefits administration including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA, FSA, and retirement plans, ensuring accurate enrollments, changes, terminations, and carrier integrations.
  • Ensure the accurate calculation, reconciliation, and auditing of wages, bonuses, commissions, overtime, deductions, garnishments, and retroactive adjustments.
  • Own payroll data integrity through regular audits, reconciliations, and controls, partnering closely with Finance on general ledger mapping, exports, payroll tax coordination, and financial audits.
  • Serve as system owner and primary administrator for Paylocity payroll, time and labor, benefits, workflows, reporting, and configuration, ensuring system accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize HRIS workflows, dashboards, custom reports, forms, and automations to support compliance, leadership reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead annual open enrollment, partnering with brokers, carriers, Finance, and internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth, compliant, and well-communicated process.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including FLSA, wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and other benefit-related mandates.
  • Prepare, review, and support required federal and state reporting, audits, and filings related to payroll, benefits, and employment compliance.
  • Serve as the escalation point for payroll, benefits, and HRIS issues, providing timely, accurate, and customer-focused support to Team Members and People Leaders.
  • Train managers and onsite teams on payroll, timekeeping, benefits, and system processes as needed to ensure proper execution and compliance.
  • Partner with the People & Culture team and Finance on cross-functional initiatives, system enhancements, and continuous improvement efforts that strengthen People operations and mitigate risk.
