About The Position

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant full-cycle Canadian payroll processing for operational and corporate employees. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, this role primarily administers non-union payroll and supports union payroll when required across multiple legal entities and provinces. The role supports weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles and ensures wages, overtime, premiums, allowances, vacation pay, taxable benefits, source deductions, benefit deductions, and other payroll transactions are processed correctly. It also completes CRA remittances, Records of Employment, workers' compensation reporting, and year-end tax reporting. Working with Human Resources, Finance, field leaders, and site administrators, the Payroll Analyst validates data, reconciles records, resolves discrepancies, and maintains audit support. Success requires practical payroll knowledge, attention to detail, and consistent execution within a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of full-cycle Canadian payroll experience, including demonstrated responsibility for end-to-end non-union payroll processing
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and administration, including source deductions, statutory remittances, Records of Employment, T4 reporting, and year-end reconciliation
  • Experience completing workers' compensation reporting and remittances, including WCB or WSIB requirements
  • Experience using payroll and time-entry systems, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong accuracy, organization, judgment, and confidentiality, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet fixed payroll deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience processing union payroll and payroll across multiple Canadian provinces is preferred
  • Payroll experience within construction, utility infrastructure, or another project-based contracting environment is considered an asset
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification or relevant post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, or business is considered an asset but is not required

Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end weekly and bi-weekly payroll for employees across multiple Canadian entities and provinces
  • Validate time, pay rates, regular and overtime hours, premiums, allowances, vacation pay, taxable benefits, and adjustments
  • Calculate and process CPP, EI, income tax, benefits, garnishments, retirement contributions, and other deductions
  • Process payroll changes for new hires, terminations, leaves, transfers, and compensation or status updates
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation, company policies, and internal payroll controls
  • Administer non-union payroll and support union rates, deductions, remittances, and collective agreement requirements
  • Maintain payroll calendars, checklists, records, and processing deadlines
  • Calculate, reconcile, and remit source deductions and employer contributions to the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Prepare, submit, and amend Records of Employment in accordance with Service Canada requirements
  • Prepare, reconcile, and file T4s, T4As, and related year-end summaries
  • Support year-end balancing, taxable benefit reviews, pension adjustments, and employee tax form distribution
  • Prepare WCB and WSIB remittances, annual returns, reporting, and reconciliations
  • Reconcile payroll registers, liability accounts, source deductions, benefit deductions, and general ledger entries
  • Investigate and correct payroll discrepancies, missed or incorrect payments, and employee overpayments
  • Maintain complete payroll records for internal controls, audits, and record-retention requirements
  • Maintain data integrity across payroll, human resources, time-entry, and financial systems
  • Process off-cycle payments, manual adjustments, reversals, corrections, and final pay calculations
  • Maintain employee tax elections, direct deposit details, vacation balances, and deduction instructions
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and labour cost summaries for internal stakeholders
  • Support government and internal payroll reviews, information requests, and audits
  • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, project teams, and site administrators to validate inputs and resolve issues
  • Respond to employee and leader payroll inquiries accurately and promptly
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll, tax, banking, and personal information
  • Support payroll process improvements, system testing, internal controls, and operating procedures
